Dixie Park Place – Mississauga

This blog will review Ray’s first hidden gem.

Have you ever had that moment in time where you thought that finding good food at an extremely low price would be impossible? Well, for starters I can say that nothing is impossible. Finding extremely good but relatively cheap food does require some work and lots of taste tasting before you can say that a particular restaurant is a hidden gem. In most instances, a hidden gem would be an establishment where the cosmetics and visual representation of the restaurant is not the most enticing when it comes down to attracting new customers. In a simpler context, we can say that a hidden gem is almost like a grease joint or a food court which serves good quality food.

Dixie Park Place is a small plaza which has a variety of stores that sells many products and services. However, to go into detail about the products that are sold within Dixie Park Place would have to be written in an entirely new blog. Therefore, the scope of this review will be written on it’s food court.

The food court within the plaza is quite small. However, the selection of the restaurants do provide some variety. For instance, if you are feeling Japanese you can go to Arigato, a restaurant which specializes in Japanese sushi. Beside Arigato is a Korean restaurant which specializes in Korean food. For example, Bibimbop, La Kalbi, and bulgogi. From memory alone, I will say that there are about 7 to 8 restaurants in total within the food court. Although most of the places serve good food, I will have to say that Dynasty BBQ is my personal favourite and one of my hidden gems.

Dynasty BBQ is independently owned. If you ever decide to go there, you will notice that the staff is quite small. In fact, there are only two people who run the entire business, the cook and the cashier. I assume it is the wife and husband who work there, however I have been told that the chef is the actual owner and the cashier is someone who was just hired to do the job of ringing in the orders. Regardless of the small staff, the restaurant seems to do well when it comes down to fulfilling the orders.

The restaurant serves approximately 30 Chinese dishes ranging from meat to vegetarian. Dynasty also has their own BBQ rack, which serves duck, BBQ pork and roasted chicken. Hence the name Dynasty BBQ Restaurant. So what makes Dynasty a hidden gem? Well, when you order a combo from Dynasty your meal will come served on a hot skillet with soup. Not only is the food served proper, the portions are crazy huge. Not to exaggerate, but one dish is enough to feed two people. If that was not enough, the prices charged on these meals can be considered a steal. At $5.95 for a combo, we can say that 2 for 1 Pizza is considered expensive. So taking everything into consideration, quality, portions and price, Dynasty is something which is a must try.

What would I recommend at Dynasty? Since the day I was introduced to the restaurant two years ago I only ordered two dishes. They were Seafood Noodle and Singapore Beef Vermicelli. If you have never gone to Dynasty and do not know what to get make sure you get the Seafood Noodle or the Singapore Beef Vermicelli. I do not know what it is, but the taste from these two dishes never seem to get boring.

The Seafood Noodle dish is served with Ho Fun noodles which is a variant of rice noodles. Ho Fun noodles are wide, flat rice noodles. The dish will be accompanied with a mixture of seafood and vegetables. To be specific there will be crab meat, tilapia, shrimp, squid, and broccoli. When the dish is served it will normally come on a hot skillet. Make sure you let the food cool down first because the meal will be very hot when you receive it. To describe the texture of the noodles, I will say that the noodles are very silky which is an indication of freshness. The price of the seafood noodle dish is $5.95.

The Singapore Beef Vermicelli dish is served with Vermicelli Rice noodles. The meal is accompanied with beef, shrimp, onions and served with a curry base. I specifically love this dish because of the curry taste. This dish costs about $4.95, which is definitely a steal! The meal is dry compared to the Seafood Noodle dish. Therefore, by describing these two personal favourites of mine, I hope that when you do decide to try Dynasty BBQ Restaurant you will have no problem on deciding what to order.

Overall, Dynasty BBQ Restaurant is a definite must try. Although the restaurant is quite far in Mississauga, the price, portions, and quality should make up for the car ride there. I have this feeling that when you become a regular and they notice that you go there a lot, they give you more food than what they normally do. The service is what it should be for a food court, quick and concise.

On a scale out of 10 I would give Dynasty BBQ Restaurant a 9/10.

Price – 9/10 – Very very good prices – $4.95 for a full dish is quite a steal
Taste – 9/10 – Taste is awesome!
Size – 9/10 – Portions are large! so if you are a big eater do not worry, the amount of food should be enough to satisfy your appetite

  1. It’s actually BBQ Pork in the Singapore Vermicelli Raymond =P

  2. Hahah… Kevin and I have had sushi from the place at the very end topped off with some bubble tea, although I am always skeptical about their tapioca. I always end up with some weird looking ones… creeps me out a little bit but I always go back.

Don’t you love how they call out the order numbers over a speaker system… but then leave the mic on so you can still hear the kitchen action!

We will have to check out Dynasty next time lol Thanks for the tip!

  3. haha, nice Tati! I never knew you actually went to Dixie Park Plaza. Its pretty nice eh! Cheap food and great portions. Also, I do love how they call out the numbers with the microphone, ask Lana I always joke around about it. “Numba seven! lol inside joke” Let me how the food is when you do go to Dynasty.
